Balfour Beatty Plant & Fleet Services cycling team set to embark on their 1,000-mile bike ride for charity
Balfour Beatty Plant & Fleet Services is a customer of Northgate, Britain's largest vehicle rental company.
Northgate has donated £1,000 to the adventurous quintet's bid top to raise as much money as possible for Building Better Futures and road safety charity Brake from the cycle ride, which is being billed as the 'Top to Bottom Challenge'.
Building Better Futures has its own charitable status and is, in the UK, designed and managed by a partnership between Balfour Beatty plc, The Prince's Trust and Action for Children, who have been Balfour Beatty's corporate charity partners for the last two years.
In return for the sponsorship cash, Northgate's livery appears on the team's clothing and support vehicle as they make their way from John O'Groats today (Friday, April 3) with the aim of arriving at Land's End in 10 days' time.
As well as to raise money for worthy causes, the team is undertaking the ride in celebration of Balfour Beatty's centenary year.
The team consists of five employees from Balfour Beatty Plant & Fleet Services: managing director Steve Farmer, safety, health, environment and quality director Tony Small, safety, health, environment and quality manger Tim Russell, commercial manager Carl Hanson and professional services manager James Burrows. They will be accompanied in the support vehicle by tour manager Lynne Shacklock, the company's marketing and communications manager.
Simon Ridley, Northgate's UK fleet services director, said: "The team has set themselves a punishing schedule in their bid to raise funds for some very worthy causes. We hope the rest of the fleet industry backs their adventurous spirit with sponsorship."
